The Brooklyn Children's Museum

Brooklyn, NY: The world's oldest children's museum—now one of its newest thanks to a major Rafael Viñoly-designed expansion than that doubled its size and tripled the fun with all-new exhibits and programs in September 2008—is not your typical stuffy museum.

Filled with hands-on learning adventures designed especially for the developmental stages of little people's minds, Brooklyn Children's Museum constantly introduces new exhibits and programs in the arts, humanities, science, and the environment.

Recent new family festival weekends and school-holiday weeks have included "Icky Fest," an exploration of lizards, dirt, mucus, poop, and other disgusting things that make the world work; "Festivals of Light," a seasonal celebration of light-filled holidays; "Chinese New Year" with a martial-arts display by Shaolin monks, preparation of traditional rice-ball delicacies, and lion dancers performing; and "¡Fantasia's Fiesta!" a quinceañera celebration for the Museum's 22-foot albino Burmese python.

Ongoing programs offer ever-changing possibilities for discovery with new installments each month in series like "Blooming Babies" for youngsters 18 months to 2-1/2 years; "Chase Wonder Why Workshops," focusing on science and its intersections with culture for ages 5 and up; and the "MetLife Early Learner Performance Series" with music and dance performances for all ages from around the world. Visit our website at www.brooklynkids.org for a full listing of upcoming events.
