Aunt Nannie's Buttermilk Biscuits

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon Davis Baking Powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Cooking Instructions

Heat oven to 400 degrees F. In a large bowl, sift flour, Davis Baking Powder, salt and soda. Cut in shortening using a pastry blender or 2 knives until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add buttermilk and toss with a fork or wet hands until dough sticks together. Turn dough onto floured surface and knead lightly until smooth. Roll dough out ¾- inch thickness. Using a 2-inch biscuit cutter, cut out biscuits. Place biscuits about 2-inches apart onto lightly greased baking sheet. Bake 12-14 minutes or until golden brown.
