Florida Orange and White Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter

  • 1 3/4 cup sugar

  • 2 eggs

  • 2 tablespoons whipping cream

  • 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract

  • 4 cups all purpose flour, approximately

  • 1 3/4 teaspoons Davis Baking Powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt Glaze:

  • 4 cups confectioners' sugar

  • 1 teaspoon orange extract or oil

  • Hot water, as required

  • Orange food coloring, as required

Cooking Instructions

Stack two cookie sheets together and line the top one with parchment paper. For the dough, cream the butter with the sugar until fluffy. Add in the eggs, cream and vanilla and most of the flour to make a soft but firm dough. Flatten into a disc and chill 40-60 minutes.

Preheat oven to 350 F. On a well floured board, roll out dough to just a bit less than 1/2 inch. Cut into circles (large or whatever size you wish). Makes 6-8 huge cookies or 2-3 dozen small ones.Bake until edges are browned, about 15-20 minutes, depending on size of cookies.

Cool completely.

Make 2 bowls with some confectioners' sugar in each (about 2 cups per bowl). In one bowl, stir in the orange extract, and then some water and orange food colouring to make the orange glaze. For the other bowl, just stir in some water until you get a glaze consistency.

Smear glaze, half one color and half another, on each cookie. Set on parchment paper to set.
